On Tuesday, April 4, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls hosted the Lady Bulldogs of Taylor County High School. The Cowgirls managed to hold off a last inning rally to defeat the Lady Bulldogs with a 10-4 final score. The Cowgirls went up 2-0 in the first inning and added three more runs in the fourth. The Cowgirls continued to add runs throughout the game. Then in the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Bulldogs attempted to put together a rally, scoring two runs before the Cowgirls put a stop to the Lady Bulldogs' come-back.
Caroline Jennings went two-for-four with one RBI for the Cowgirls. Katelyn McCamman had one hit in three at-bats and drove in two runs. Reese Rutherford went one-for-four with one RBI.
Abi Annett was the winning pitcher, pitching five innings with one hit, no earned runs, and five strike-outs. Hope Underhill came in as the relief pitcher, pitching two innings, giving up three hits, three earned runs, and striking out one batter.
Then on Friday, April 7, the Cowgirls played host to the Lady Hornets of Lafayette High School. The Cowgirls chalked up another win with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Lady Hornets. As in their previous game, the Cowgirls went up early, scoring two runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cowgirls added two more runs to their total. The Lady Hornets did get one run in the top of the sixth inning, courtesy of a solo home run, but continued strong pitching from Rutherford kept the Lady Hornets at bay.
Amber Reed had one hit and one RBI in her three trips to the plate. Annett went one-for-four and added one RBI for the Cowgirls. Kaylee Groover also went one-for-three with one RBI. Rutherford got the win on the mound for the Cowgirls, giving up three hits, one earned run and striking out eight.
The Cowgirls will wrap up their 2017 regular season with three road trips. On Friday, April 14, the Cowgirls will travel to Tallahassee to take on Maclay High School. Then on Thursday, April 20, they will once again go to Tallahassee, this time to take on the Lady Eagles from North Florida Christian School. The Cowgirls will wrap up their regular season with a trip to Aucilla to take on the Lady Warriors from Aucilla Christian Academy.
