It was an exciting evening of volleyball action in the Madison County High School (MCHS) gymnasium on Tuesday, Sept. 12, when the MCHS Cowgirls hosted the Lady Trojans of Hamilton County High School. After a tough match that went the distance, the Cowgirls were able to take the win over a long-time rival.
The evening began with the junior varsity squads taking the court. The Cowgirls won the match in two straight sets, 25-16 and 25-21.
When the varsity teams faced off, the match turned out to be a very closely contested match. The match seemed to ebb and flow for both teams throughout the match. The Cowgirls took the first set, 25-19. The Lady Trojans responded, winning the second set 25-16. The Lady Trojans looked as if they may win the match in short fashion when they outscored the Cowgirls 25-20 in the third set. Facing elimination, the Cowgirls battled back in the fourth set, which was taken to extra points before either team held the needed two-point advantage to win the set. The fourth set ended with a 30-28 score, in favor of the Cowgirls. In the rubber set, the Cowgirls managed to regain control and won the set, 15-9, taking the match, 3-2.
The Cowgirls will again be on their home court on Monday, Sept. 18, when they host the Lady Bulldogs of Suwannee High School. The junior varsity match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m.
