On Friday, Mar. 3, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls softball team hosted the Lady Marauders from Maclay School in Tallahassee. The game started as a tight pitchers' duel with the game scoreless through five innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Abi Annett reached base with a single to right field. Annett then advanced to second base on an error. Summer Roberts was called in to pinch run for Annett. Then Reese Rutherford hit a deep fly ball to right field that dropped in for a double, bringing Roberts home for the Cowgirls' score. The next batter up, Kaylee Groover, singled, bringing Rutherford home. This brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Cowgirls. Maclay managed to score one run in the top of the seventh, but that was not enough to catch the Cowgirls. The victory improved the Cowgirls' record to 5-2.
Groover went two-for-three at the plate for the Cowgirls, with one RBI. Rutherford went one-for-three with one RBI. Rutherford was also the winning pitcher for the Cowgirls, throwing 11 strike-outs while only giving up one hit and no earned runs.
