A solo home run by Cowgirl freshman, Alden Bass turned out to be the big game changer on Tuesday, March 21, when the Madison County High School (MCHS) hosted the Aucilla Christian Academy Lady Warriors in softball action. Much of the game was a defensive pitcher's duel as Cowgirl junior Jose Driggers turned in one of her best performances in the circle for the Cowgirls.
The game was knotted at 0-0 through four and a half innings until Alden Bass sent a long fly ball over the left field fence, giving the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead. The Cowgirls managed to bring in an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Bethni Stalnaker hit a one-out sacrifice grounder to the Aucilla short-stop that brought Driggers home from third base.
Alden Bass went one-for-two at the plate with one RBI from her solo home run. Stalnaker had one hit in her three plate appearances, with one RBI. Logan Bass, Amari Alexander and Driggers also had hits for the Cowgirls.
Driggers went the distance in the pitcher's circle for the Cowgirls, giving up two hits, no walks and striking out 10 batters. The Cowgirls will be back on their home diamond on Tuesday, March 28, when they host the Lady Buccaneers of Branford High School. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
