On Thursday, Feb. 25, the Madison County High School Cowgirls softball team faced off against the Aucilla Lady Warriors. The Cowgirls had no runs and ultimately fell hard to the Lady Warriors with a final score of 13-0; which was a devastating blow to the team.
Unfortunately the Cowgirls did not recover from their loss against Aucilla and lost to their next opponent, the Lafayette Hornets with a score of 6-3. Megan Washington was 2-3 at the plate with a double. Hannah Zimmerly and Laila Dickey both drove in runs. Reese Rutherford pitched seven strong innings, striking out eight in seven innings.
On Tuesday, March 1, the Cowgirls dusted themselves off and were able to defeat Taylor County with a score of 13-0. Shelbi Copper and Laila Dickey both drove in two runs while Katelyn McCamman scored three run on two hits. Senior Carlie Ginn pitched five shutout innings in the victory, scattering two hits, striking out five batters and allowing no runs.
The Cowgirls' rematch against the Warriors on Friday, March 4 did not sit well, as they lost 11-0.
The game against Lincoln on Tuesday, March 8 was unsuccessful as well. The Cowgirls lost 8-2.
