There is an old sports adage that says “a tie game is like kissing your cousin.” That is exactly what happened when the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls faced the Timberwolves of Chiles High School, from Tallahassee, on Tuesday, April 4. The game had originally been scheduled for the previous evening, but Mother Nature intervened with rain showers and the game was rescheduled for Tuesday. The score was knotted at 1-1 after five innings when darkness befell Cowgirl Field. The lights at Cowgirl Field were not working properly, so the game was called and a tie score was entered into the record books.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings before the Timberwolves took the lead in the top of the third inning. The fourth inning resulted in no runs and in the bottom half of the fifth inning, Eden McKinney scored on a Logan Bass sacrifice fly to tie the score at one run apiece.
The Cowgirls managed three hits during the contest. Tsadi Irvine went one-for-three at the plate. Erin Burnett was productive in the batter's box, garnering two hits in her two trips to the plate. Logan Bass was credited with an RBI for her sac-fly.
Josie Driggers and Alden Bass tag-teamed in the pitcher's circle for the Cowgirls, giving up one hit, one earned run, four walks and striking out eight.
The Cowgirls will return to Cowgirl Field on Thursday, April 13, to take on the Bulldogs of Suwannee High School. It will be Senior Night for the Cowgirls, so be sure to arrive early for the ceremony when the Cowgirls honor seniors Tsadi Irvine and Bethni Stalnaker.
