The Madison County High School Cowgirls Varsity basketball team played three games last week. On Tuesday, Dec. 15, the Cowgirls faced off against the Lafayette Hornets at 6:30 p.m. in a home game. The Cowgirls took the lead in the first quarter, winning 12-9, but they weren't as successful in the second quarter, as the Hornets won 18-6. In the third quarter, the Cowgirls struck back, winning 19-12. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets and Cowgirls tied 7-7. Unfortunately, the Cowgirls lost by two points with a final score of 46-44. Jameica Cobb scored a total of 15 points, while Josie Long scored 12 points. Niyah Hall scored a total of six points, and Kevisa Moore scored three points. Tamiera Mobley, Adrianna Kinsey, Nacoya Williams and Samantha Anderson all contributed as well, each scoring two points. On Dec. 18, the Cowgirls were back on the court and traveled to Tallahassee to face off against the Leon Lions. The Cowgirls dominated by the first quarter with a score of 13-9 but fell short in the next three quarters. In the second quarter, there was a tie of 11-11 between the Lions and the Cowgirls. The Lions broke this tie in the third quarter, defeating the Cowgirls by a close 12-8. In the last quarter, the Cowgirls fell by two points, with the Lions winning 13-11. The final score for the game was 45-43, marking a loss for the Cowgirls. Long was the leading scorer of the game, scoring a total of 19 points. Cobb scored eight points, while Adrianna Kinsey and Brittany Kinsey both contributed with six points each. Travecia Fead added four points. The Cowgirls faced off against the Jefferson Tigers in their last game of the week held on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 4:30 p.m. The Cowgirls tore the Tigers apart in the first quarter, winning with a final score of 36-3. In the second quarter, the Cowgirls took the lead once more and squashed the Tigers with a score of 20-0. The Tigers were able to score two points in the third quarter, but the Cowgirls took over and ultimately won 11-2. In the last quarter, the Cowgirls won 7-4; the final score of the game was a massive win of 74-9 for the Cowgirls. Cobb scored a total of 28 points, with Brittany Kinsey scoring 14 points. Fead scored a total of 13 points and also was selected as player of the game. Long scored 11 points, Hall scored four points and Williams and Adrianna Kinsey both scored two points each. After Christmas break, the Cowgirls will be participating in the Destin Holiday Classic in Destin, Fl. from Dec. 28 to Dec. 30. The MCHS Cowgirls are on fire! Stay tuned for more game updates!
