There will be no repeat championship for the Class 1A girls basketball defending State Champions. The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls' basketball season came to an end in the first round of the district tournament when the Cowgirls were defeated by the Lady Hornets of Lafayette High School by a score of 48-47.
Josie Long finished out her impressive Cowgirl career with another top performance, scoring another double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Lasage Ferguson had nine points, three rebounds, and three steals in the Cowgirls' effort.
The Cowgirls finished the season with a 14-14 record and a district record of three wins and three losses. This year's squad was a very young team, with five freshmen or sophomores on the 11-member roster. Even though this year may have been disappointing in terms of repeating as State Champs, the future looks bright for Cowgirls Basketball.
