A combination of great pitching, five stolen bases and a solid defensive performance helped the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls pick up their third win of the season. On Tuesday, Feb, 20, the Cowgirls hosted the Lady Marauders of Maclay High School, from Tallahassee. The Cowgirls finished the contest with a 6-0 shut-out of the Lady Marauders. After two scoreless inning, the Cowgirls got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning by scoring two runs. The Cowgirls added one in the fourth, then finished with a three-run fifth inning.
Halie Weatherington went two-for-three at the plate with one RBI. Amber Reed had one hit in her three trips to the plate, with one RBI.
Reese Rutherford picked up her third win of the season by putting on a pitching clinic, giving up just three hits and no earned runs in seven innings, while striking out 14 batters.
The next home game for the Cowgirls, now 3-0, will be on Monday, Feb. 26, against the Jefferson Somerset Lady Tigers. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
