In their first home volleyball matches of the 2023 season, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls volleyball teams split two matches with the visiting Lady Warriors of Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) on Thursday, Aug. 24, in the MCHS gymnasium.
In the junior varsity match, the two teams seemed very evenly matched as the lead went back and forth in much the same way the ball crossed back and forth across the net. In the end, the Cowgirls picked up the win, 2-1. The set scores reflect the close competition between the two teams. The Cowgirls took the first set with a 26-24 score. The Lady Warriors bounced back, coming from behind to win the second set with the same 26-24 score. In the rubber set, the teams only play to 15 points, assuming there is the mandatory two-point difference in the scores. The Cowgirls were able to pull out the third set with a 15-13 score.
It was a slightly different story when the two varsity teams took the court. The Lady Warriors took control early and seemingly dominated each set. Despite valiant efforts from the Cowgirls and some exciting back-and-forth play from both teams, the Lady Warriors won the match in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-16.
The Cowgirls will again be back on their home court on Thursday, Sept. 7, when they face long-time rival Lady Bulldogs from Taylor County High School. The competition gets underway at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity squads taking the court, followed by the varsity match at approximately 6 p.m., in the MCHS gymnasium.
