In their last home game for the season, on Thursday, April 13, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls sent the Seniors off in winning style with a 15-1 shellacking of the Lady Cougars of Godby High School. The Cowgirls were true to form as they once again went out to an early lead, scoring three unanswered runs in the first inning. Then, in the second inning, the Cowgirls racked up 11 runs to open a commanding lead. The game was called at the end of four innings. The Cowgirls only had four base hits; however, they had a total of 16 free trips to first base, courtesy of walks from the Godby pitcher.
Katelyn McCamman went one-for-three at the plate with four RBIs for the Cowgirls. Cali Dyal also made good use of her one base hit in two trips to the plate, driving in three runs. Amber Reed and Reese Rutherford also had base hits for the Cowgirls. Abi Annett and Hope Underhill shared pitching duties for the Cowgirls, giving up five hits, one earned run, and striking out six Godby batters.
The tables were turned on the Cowgirls on Friday, April 14, as they traveled to Tallahassee to take on the Lady Marauders of Maclay High School. This time it was Maclay who went up early, scoring two runs in their first inning. The Lady Marauders scored another run in the second inning. The Cowgirls were able to keep the Lady Marauders away from home plate for the rest of the evening. The Cowgirls did score two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but were unable to score any more in the seventh. The Cowgirls fell with a 3-2 final score.
Laila Dickey was one-for-three at the plate for the Cowgirls, getting one RBI. Annett, Caroline Jennings, and McKenzie Miller also had hits for the Cowgirls. Rutherford had pitching duties for the evening, giving up eight hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
