On Friday, March 27 Deacon Williams, age 88, departed this earthly life at Lake Park Nursing Home in Madison. Deacon W.M. “Dub” Williams was born on November 12, 1926 to the late Charlie and Susie Williams. He was converted in his later years in life and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health began to fail. He proudly served in the United States Army, was a medic and Bronze Star Medal recipient during the Korean War. He remained active in the local American Legion Post 195. Deacon Williams was a kind and humble individual who touched many lives through his generosity and commitments. He was well known in the Madison community and served as a vibrant and active participant in many meaningful endeavors. Some might remember him as the “firewood man,” which was an important link for cold North Florida winter days. Deacon Williams was also co-owner of the “Happy Street Snack Box,” where he and his wife, Mary Dean Williams operated with great enthusiasm. Deacon Williams will forever remain in the hearts of his six children: George Daniel (Judith), of Biloxi, Miss.; Lillian Martin, of Tallahassee, Fl.; Byron (Phyllis), of Nashville, Tenn.; Judson Williams, of Live Oak, Fl.; Marion Jackson (Charlie) and Wendell Williams (Sophia), both of Madison. Also he leaves to cherish his grandchildren: Reginald (Lisa), John Jr., Rashaunda (Michael), TeJuana, DaMarien, Stevie (Felicia), Wendell Jr., Courtney, Michael, Chernetta, Marlon, Rinauldo, Tavaris, Justin, and Takatja. His great-grandchildren include: Ralaysha, Relix, Jalisa, Stevie, Jr., Nasir, Malachi, Tonie, Johnae, Jashaun, Michael, Jr., Mar’Kevian, and Mar’Laija. Deacon Williams was blessed to have two sisters: Mae Beulah Sapp and Bessie Monlyn; one brother, Charlie Ray Williams (Carolyn); sister-in-law, Mary E. Williams; a devoted friend Lillie Graham, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as, other extended relatives, and sorrowing friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dean Williams of 49 years; brothers: Jesse and Rommie Williams; sister, Clemmie Graham; and great-granddaughter, Te’Karia Palmer. Funeral services were held April 4 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Madison. Burial was at Oakridge Cemetery, Madison. The family received friends at Cooks-Cooper Chapel on April 3.
