Mrs. Dianne Callahan Bateman, age 76, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020 in Valdosta, Ga. She was born on Jan. 11, 1944 in Opelika, Ala., to Lynnwood and Hazel Callahan. Her family later moved to Lafayette, Ala.
Following High School, she graduated from Auburn University where she received her post-master's degree in education.
She married Randy Bateman on Dec. 23, 1970. They were to soon be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Madison, Fla. She was also a member of the Silver Spurs Riding Club in Kissimmee, Fla. and of the Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show. She moved to Cherry Lake, Fla. 11 years ago, coming from Kissimmee, Fla. She loved riding cutting horses. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and cooking southern style meals. She was a career person and loved teaching and loved her students. In her lifetime she garnered over 30 years of teaching experience. She taught business and accounting at college and high school levels at such institutions as Auburn University, Southern Union Community College, Enterprise State Community College, Liberty County High School, Osceola High School and St. Cloud High School. She is loved and fondly remembered by many of her students. She shared with her family a passion for Auburn University. She will be remembered for her witty sense of humor, caring nature, strength of character, zest for life and kind smile. She had a deep love for her family, and readily shared photographs of her three grandchildren wherever she went.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lynnwood and Hazel Callahan; her son, Clyde "Rusty" Bateman, Jr., and two brothers: Bill Callahan and Henry Callahan.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Bateman; her daughter, Carrie Lee Bateman Baxley, D.V.M. and her husband Darren Baxley, D.V.M; three grandchildren: Harold, Lynnwood and Hazel Louise Baxley, of Pinetta, Fla.; one Brother, Emmett Callahan and wife Janet of Carnesville, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Amie Wood Bateman, of Breese, III.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 at Landmark Baptist Church, Madison, Fla. with visitation immediately preceding the service at 10 a.m. Interment will occur on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020 in Auburn, Ala.
