Donald "Donnie" Edward Barclay, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020, in Tallahassee, Fla. Donnie was born March 3, 1948 in Greenville, Fla. to Robert Lee and Mae Bell Southall Barclay.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of New Macedonia Baptist Church, of Greenville, Fla. Donnie was well versed in the Bible, taught Adult Sunday School and led singing at his church for many years.
Donnie was a graduate of Greenville High School, class of 1966. He was a member of the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War as a Helicopter Mechanic. When Donnie returned home, from serving his country, he worked as a Helicopter Mechanic in Louisiana. He later worked for The Pony Express, then worked for fifteen years, at Florida State University, in the postal service. When Donnie was at home, on the farm, he could often be found on the tractor, mending fences or taking care of the other many duties.
Donnie enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved making others smile and laugh. He also enjoyed sitting in his chair with his miniature dachshund, Jager, who he spoiled.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Robert Lee and Mae Bell Southall Barclay; Brothers: Robert "Gene" (Lavon), Albert (Carolyn) and Allen; as well as his sister, Margaret; and two brothers-in-law: Harold Buchanan and Subbayya Shetty.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary (Lee); two stepsons: Keith Alley (Cozette) and Ben Hancock; an adopted daughter, Damaris Cobb (Lee); two granddaughters: Hailey and Teylor Alley; two sisters: Sarah Buchanan and Marie Shetty; a sister-in-law, Caroline Barclay; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at Barclay Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Big Bend Hospice.
