On June 26, 1934, a bouncing baby boy was born to Charles and Pearl Smith in Cleveland, Oh. The doctors told his parents not to name him, for he wouldn't live that long. However, Charles and Pearl named him Donald. At the young age of 10, after the death of his father, Donald and his mother moved to Florida to be with the rest of the family.
At age 21, Donald met and married his first love Katie. They lived in Miramar, Fl. Donald and Katie had their first child, Rita Mae Smith, in 1957, and two years later their first son, Donald Smith Jr. was born. In June of 2000, Donald lost his wife Katie to an accident. In 2002, he moved to Lee, Fl. to be with his daughter Rita, son-in-law Russell and son Donald Jr. In April 2005, Donald wed Ella Mae Williams, and they were married for seven years, until her passing in 2012.
Donald served God, his church, and his family. He was an avid football fan and also watched NASCAR. He enjoyed farming, traveling, and camping with his daughter Rita and her husband Russell. Donald went to be with his heavenly Father on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 at Madison County Memorial Hospital. He is proceeded in death by his sisters Alice, Margie and Irine, and brother Willis. Donald is survived by his daughter Rita, her husband Russell, and son Donald Jr. of Lee, son Lee and wife Theresa of Cherry Lake, daughter Diane and husband Gary of Jennings, and daughter Audrey Mae of Georgia. Donald is also survived by grandchildren: Tonya, Theresa, Brandy, Brittany, Joey, Justin, Kendra, Zaevan, Katie, Sonney, Eva, and David, and great grandchildren: Tony, Talissa, Martina, Ashton, Landon, and Jackson.
A going home celebration is planned for Donald on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church. A balloon ceremony and lunch will follow. All family and friends are invited to attend.
