Doris Louetta Phillips Coody, 92, of Pinetta, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, in Valdosta, Ga.
She was born January 22, 1924, in Echols County, Ga. A daughter of the late Clarence and Donna Peterson Phillips, as a teenager Coody moved to Lowndes County, and on Nov. 15, 1946, she was united in marriage with Arther Lott Coody. She was a factory worker for 22 years at Metal Products, in Madison, and a cafeteria worker at Pinetta Jr. High School for over 10 years.
She was a member of Pinetta First Baptist Church and was a very loving and giving person. Mrs. Coody loved her grandchildren and enjoyed socializing with anyone that had time for a conversation, as well as attending church and cooking. She was very excited about her first great-great grandson, Drake James Coody, who is expected in late August to J.D. and Jayme Coody.
She is survived by two grandsons, Darron Coody and Allen Coody, both of Pinetta; two great-grandsons, J.D. Coody (and wife Jayme) and Shane Coody, both of Pinetta; and one great granddaughter, Gabriel Lane. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Coody; a son, Ted Coody; her step-mother, Louis Southall Phillips; two sisters, Majorie Easler and Edris Becton; and two brothers, Clarence Phillips, Jr. and Preston Phillips.
Her family received friends and family from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4 at Beggs Funeral Home, in Madison. A service will be held on Friday, Aug. 5 at Beggs Chapel. She will be put to rest at Redland Cemetery, in Lowndes County, Ga., with no graveside services.
