Dorthenia Haynes McCould was born in Madison, Fla. on April 14, 1946 to Albert and Roberta DeLaughter.
She accepted Christ as her Savior in July of 1957, at the early age of eleven and joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church, and in later years Pineland Missionary Baptist Church.
She was a faithful member of the church choir, where singing and serving the Lord was her passion. Her pastimes included baking, reading the Bible, crossword puzzles and listening to her spirituals.
Dorthenia received her formal education at Madison County Training School and went on to pursue a career in cosmetology at Stanton Vocational School, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Preceding her in death are both parents; Daughter, Maudina M. Aikens; Four siblings: Catherine Brown, James DeLaughter, Ezell Tookes and Martha DeLaughter.
Dorthenia's earthly journey ended peacefully at Indian River Medical Center on Thursday, June 18, 2020 in Vero Beach, Fla.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories one brother, Rev. David DeLaughter of Madison, Fla.; three sisters, Naomi Anderson, of Madison, LaVerne Lamb, of Tallahassee Fla. and Mary Holloway, of Vero Beach, Fla.; sister in-law, Betty DeLaughter of Madison Fla. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside memorial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetary.
