Douglas Howard Poppell, age 97, died on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 in Quincy, Fl. He was born on Aug. 17, 1919 and was the son of James Bennett Poppell and Delia Kirkland Poppell of Leon County, Fl. His parents; a loving wife, Elizabeth Carman Poppell; three brothers, and a sister preceded him in death. He leaves behind a daughter, Sharon P. Franklin, of Quincy; four sons: Howard S. Poppell (Ruth) of Tallahassee, Walton Fain Poppell (Linda) of Madison, Samuel Edwin Poppell (Sue Anne) of Quincy, and John Albert Poppell (Deborah) of Tallahassee; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Poppell was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed sharing his knowledge with everyone in his first book entitled From the Shadows of Coonbottom. His second book has just come out entitled A Gathering of Pioneer Wisdom. All who knew him will miss him; his quick wit and hardworking ways will forever live on through his children and grandchildren. Family received friends on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sharon Franklin’s home, located at 214 Carlene Lane, Quincy, Fl., 32351.
