Dr. Frederick Stephen Humphries, Sr., 85, of Orlando, Fla., departed this life on Thursday, June 24, 2021. Dr. Humphries was an American academic administrator and chemistry professor. He served as President of Tennessee State University (1974 to 1985) and President of Florida A&M University (1985 to 2001).
Celebration of life services, with COVID-19 restrictions, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, in the Alfred Lawson, Jr. Multipurpose Center, 1800 Wahnish Way, in Tallahassee. Dr. Humphries will lie in repose for public visitation from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 9, in the Florida A&M University Lee Hall Auditorium, 1601 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, in Tallahassee. Earthly bed of slumber: Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Dr. Humphries is survived by his daughter, Robin T. Humphries-Watson; sons, Frederick (Kim) Humphries, Jr. and Laurence (Carnesha) Humphries; two sisters; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and numerous friends.
