A 16-year-old was seriously injured after failing to negotiate a turn and hitting a tree on Saturday, July 4 at 12:20 a.m., on Cactus Avenue in Madison. According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, Kelsey Briana Odom, 16, of Madison was traveling northbound on Cactus Avenue at approximately 45-50 MPH in her 2004 Mazda Tribute. The vehicle entered a right hand curve. Odom failed to negotiate the curve and the vehicle ran off the roadway onto the northwest shoulder. The vehicle continues to travel northeast along the shoulder. The vehicle struck a large oak tree. The vehicle bounced off the tree and came to a final rest facing south. Odom received serious injuries and was transported to the South Georgia Medical Center. The report states that this accident was alcohol related and no seatbelt was in use at the time of the crash. Charges are pending further investigation.
