Eddie Louise Ragans Bevis of Thomaston, Ga., formerly of Madison, Fl., passed away on Wednesday, Jan.13 in Newnan, Ga. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Oakridge Cemetery in Madison. Family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Central and North Florida, located at 2180 W. State Rd. 434 Ste. 1100 in Longwood, Fl., 32779.
Mrs. Bevis was born at West Farm, Madison County, Fl. on June 7, 1922. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Robert Early and Della Lenore McDonald Ragans. She was educated in the local schools and lived the majority of her life in Madison, but also lived in Bainbridge, Ga., Tifton, Ga. and Gainesville, Fl. before returning to Madison in 1952. She was married to Carl Stuart Bevis, Sr. from February 11, 1945 until April 8, 2005 when he predeceased her.
She was employed by Tri-County Electric, Morrow Insurance Agency and International Paper Company and was also active at the First Baptist Church of Madison, Madison Woman’s Club and the Madison Garden Club.
She moved to Thomaston, Ga. in 2014 to be near her daughter and primary care-giver. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Bevis Franklin (Jim) of Thomaston, Ga.; son, Carl Stuart Bevis, Jr. (Anne) of Attapulgus, Ga.; four grandsons: Dr. James Stuart Franklin, Sr. (Jennifer) of Peachtree City, Ga., Richard Timothy Franklin (Charlene) of Rome, Ga., Paul Alexander Bevis of Gainesville, Fl. and Robert Wimberley Bevis of Tallahassee, Fl.; and five great-grandchildren: Kaylee, James, Riley, Joel and Jude Franklin. She is also survived by a sister, Edith Davis of Tallahassee, Fl.; a sister-in-law, Juanita Ragans of Madison, Fl. and numerous relatives in the extended Bevis, Ragans, McDonald and Perry families. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers: Oscar, Henry, Buddy, John, George and Vernon as well as her sisters: Irene Andrews, Eunice Tyson and Gracie Gibson.
