Elbert Thomas Sever, Sr., age 88, of Madison Fla., passed away on Monday, Oct. 26, 2020 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Sever was born Dec. 15, 1931, to William Thomas and Hoyet Comella Lewis Sever. He grew up in an old farmhouse with two brothers: William and Glenn, and one sister, Linda.
He graduated from Greenville High School in 1950. Elbert served in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon serving in the Army, he returned to his childhood home and met his lifelong partner and love of his life, Juanita Coulliette. They married in 1956. They have been married for over 64 years.
Elbert worked for over 16 years with the A & P Tea Company, in management. After leaving there, he moved back to his childhood home to raise his family. He went on to work with Florida Plywood in Greenville, Fla. until retirement. After retiring, he worked with Madison County Waste and Recycling for many years.
Elbert loved his family. His happiest moments were having all of his children, grandchildren and great-grand's together. Most every Sunday, you would find a house full of family enjoying a big southern meal, children running and playing and brothers and sisters spending time together. He was so thankful to have a family that loved the Lord. He was an ordained deacon at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Taylor County, Fla.
A humble man. A strong and hard working man. A man of his word. A devoted husband, known to his children as Daddy, to his grand's as Poppie, a friend to all, knowing the love of his family and friends. He knew that he was a blessed man, he knew that he was saved by the Grace of God. Thankful for it all, he is now at home with Jesus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Henry Sever; great-grandson, Noah Thompson, and great-grandson, Memphis Green.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Juanita Sever; his brother, Glenn Sever; sister, Linda Ginter, and his two sons: Elbert (Bert) Sever, Jr. (Beth), Keith Sever (Peggy); three daughters: Marchell Sever Bishop (Ronald), Alicia Sever Cone (Jay) and Lori Sever Vann (Joe); 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grand's.
