Every August, Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) publishes an Annual Report, a variation of their bi-monthly newsletter with a thorough update of cooperative business and financials added for the membership to review. TCEC’s commitment to community is the focus of this year’s Annual Report, and there is no better way to highlight the community than to have a member of the community draw the cover. Thus, the idea for a drawing contest was born.
The artist of the first place drawing, voted on by TCEC employees, will receive $125, recognition at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 16, and of course; their artwork on the cover. Artistic dependents of TCEC members, grades K-12, were asked to draw a picture of TCEC in their community.
Artists varied in age and approach. Landscape paintings, stick figure lineman, and intricate pencil sketches were among the dozens of submissions from all across the TCEC service territory. From the farms of Madison County to the coast in Steinhatchee, the drawings displayed just how diverse the co-op’s service territory really is.
With so many excellent submissions, choosing a winner was a difficult task. Two submissions were selected as runner-ups. Eighteen-year-old Johnathon Alexander’s pencil sketch of a lineman carrying a wooden power pole depicts the hard work TCEC employees put into powering his community. Savanna Wilford, age 15, submitted a stunning drawing of the sunset behind the power lines in her community. These young artists both received a $35 Visa gift card and will be recognized inside the Annual Report.
Liberty Blair, age 11, drew a friendly lineman restoring power outside a farm house, with children playing and farm animals grazing in the pasture. As with many of the submissions, a hard working lineman was the focus of her drawing. The bright colors and attention to detail won her submission the majority of votes. Her artwork will be the perfect fit for the cover of TCEC’s Annual Report which will arrive in members' mailboxes in early September.
