Elvin Jones, II was born on June 8, 1956, in Jacksonville, Fla., to proud parents Elvin Jones, Sr. and Juanita Allen Jones. He soon earned the nickname, “Man”, the name that followed him throughout his life. Other than the brief years he lived in Bamberg, S.C., Elvin was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville. Elvin attained his education in the Duval County School System. Afterwards, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served with pride and was honorably discharged after he completed his tour of duty. He then worked many years with Fed-Ex and was close to completing the years for his formal retirement when his health began to fail.
“Man” was one who truly loved his family. He showed the extent of his love with his words, deeds, and by “being there” for them all. He also loved people; he never met strangers, for he regarded them as friends he had not gotten to know.
“Man” enjoyed life itself. He was fun-loving and always the life of the party. He loved to fish and ride his motorcycle, but he genuinely loved the challenge of matching wits with others in games of spades and billiards. At the end of a busy day, he settled down by watching his favorite television shows, “Married with Children” and “Animal Planet”.
On Thursday, July 2, 2022, Elvin “Man” Jones, II peacefully entered eternal glory. His legacy of love and kindness will forever reign in the hearts of his family and friends.
