Emerald Greene Parsons, the publisher of four north Florida newspapers, has received Florida Farm Bureau Federation’s 2015 Newsperson of the Year Award. She accepted the honor during an Oct. 29 session at Florida Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting in Ponte Vedra Beach. The organization presents the award annually to a journalist who has provided superior news coverage of Florida’s farm families and production agriculture. Judges faced a formidable challenge in selecting a recipient this year because the number of worthy nominees was the largest in more than a decade.
Parsons was nominated by the Madison County Farm Bureau for her work with the Madison County Carrier and the Madison Enterprise-Recorder. Her nominators described Parsons as a working journalist as well as a newspaper owner. They noted that she accurately reports on agricultural issues and farm-related topics and facilitates regular communication between farm producers and consumers. Florida Farm Bureau Federation offers the Newsperson of the Year Award as part of a continuing program of recognition for excellence in the general news media.
