Mrs. Estella Ruby Bowers Glass, 76, of Greenville, passed away Feb. 9 at Madison County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Glass was born May 20, 1939 in Elmira, NY., to the late Milton Daniel Bowers and Mildred Wandell Bowers.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Union Baptist Church in Brooks County, GA. Mrs. Glass was a homemaker and a very loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a very caring person who helped anyone she could. In her spare time ,she enjoyed working in her yard and garden, decorating her home, fishing and bowling. Her first husband, William Nathaniel Shiflett, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, James S. Glass, of Greenville; five sons: William N. Shiflett, Jr., Howard N. Shiflett, Jerry L. Shiflett, James F. Shiflett, all of Richmond, VA. and Robert A. Shiflett, of Greenville; three daughters: Lourenda Sue Capps, Alice Marie McCarthy, both of Greenville, and Wanda Faye Hardy, of Richmond, VA.; four brothers: Ronnie Bowers, Harry Bowers, William Bowers and Gerald Bowers; two sisters: Janice Towner and Cathy S. Bowers as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Glass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, in the Burns Funeral Home Madison Chapel. Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 also at Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
