Farm Bureau offers scholarship to tobacco growers

Former or current Florida tobacco growers or descendants of a Florida tobacco growers attending a post-secondary institution are eligible for Florida Farm Bureau’s newest scholarship program. Thanks to Governor Rick Scott and Commissioner Adam Putnam, Florida Farm Bureau was selected to receive funds from the August 1997 Florida Tobacco Settlement to provide scholarships to Florida tobacco growers and their descendants. This program will award scholarships of up to $2,000 to qualified applicants. The application deadline is July 1. Scholarship applications will be evaluated on the basis of scholarship, leadership and professional potential. A resume and two letters of recommendation are required with the application submission. The application is available at www.floridafarmbureau.org/Scholarships. Recipients will be selected in August. Once selection is complete, the scholarships will be awarded to the post-secondary institution in the name of the recipient. “Tobacco production has a proud history in our state and we are using these settlement funds to give back,” Florida Farm Bureau President John Hoblick stated. “Florida Farm Bureau is proud to offer scholarship assistance to qualifying students.” Any questions regarding the Florida Farm Bureau Scholarship program should be sent to scholarships@ffbf.org.
