Arthur Burkett, originally from Southern Alabama, began farming about 17 years ago after moving to Madison from Pensacola, Fla. He wanted to do something to keep busy after retiring from a paint and wall color store in Pensacola, Fla.
Burkett has his own land, as well as land that he rents on which to run cattle. He also harvests hay and pine straw. There are around 100 cows that roam on approximately 130 acres of land. He also grows hay on 30 acres and harvests pine straw on several hundred acres.
Burkett is a man of his word, who enjoys people and loves the hard work that comes with farming. He is a widower and the father of one daughter and one son.
