There was one fatality in a single vehicle wreck on Friday, July 3 at 7:08 p.m. on Interstate 10, one mile west of State Road 14. According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, Kevin Allan Hornstra, 55, of Cedaredge, Colorado was traveling eastbound on I-10 in the inside eastbound lane. The 2001 Jeep Cherokee traveled to the right and continued onto the eastbound shoulder and into a ditch. The front of the vehicle collided with several trees before coming to a final rest, facing southeast, on the southern shoulder of I-10. The passenger, Florence Jean Gadzinski, 42, of Parachute, Colorado was transported by Madison County EMS to Madison County Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Hornstra was also transported to Madison County Memorial Hospital for serious injuries, where he was treated and released. The report states that the wreck could have been alcohol-related and results are pending. Charges are also pending further investigation. Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by Madison County Sheriff's Office, Madison County EMS and Madison County Fire Rescue.
