The Madison County High School (MCHS) Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) held their annual banquet on Thursday, April 14.
The FCCLA, in their own words, promotes “personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences Education.”
The banquet was hosted entirely by the MCHS student body that makes up the FCCLA, starting from the opening ceremony, dinner and ending with the presentation of awards to various FCCLA members. Many FCCLA students had proven themselves above and beyond throughout the year and at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference that took place from March 4 through March 6. On Saturday, March 5, FCCLA students competed in the Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) competitive events and the potential in themselves, their chapter and their school.
The April 14 banquet began with a meal prepared by various parents and students and was followed by the presentation of the program by various FCCLA students.
Awards were given for Outstanding Freshmen, Outstanding Sophomores, Outstanding Juniors and Outstanding Seniors as well as Proficiency Event awards, STAR event awards, the New Member award, the Red and White award, the Community Service award and the Scholarship award.
New themes and targets were presented by chapter leader, Tyler Burnett, followed by the recognition of family and friends, with special acknowledgment going to Family and Consumer Sciences educator, Robin Smith. Smith has invested her time and care into the MCHS FCCLA students and for that, they thanked her.
As the closing ceremony called for the standing of all FCCLA members, a creed was repeated; “for we have the clean consciousness of seeking old and precious values. For we are the builders of homes, homes for America’s future, homes where living will be the expression of everything that is good and fair, homes where truth and love and security and faith will be realities, not dreams.”
With that, the FCCLA 2016 Banquet drew to a close.
