On Thursday, July 20, at 2:35 p.m., a car crash occurred at the corner of Base Street and Martin Luther King Drive. According to a report from the Madison Police Department (MPD), a silver Hyundai sedan, driven by Shayon Straughter was stopped at a red traffic light facing east on Base Street at the corner of Base Street and Martin Luther King Drive. A grey Kia sedan, driven by Jalarricka Mobley, was at the same intersection, on Martin Luther King Drive, facing north. When the traffic light turned green, the Hyundai proceeded through the intersection. As the Hyundai entered the intersection, the Kia also entered the intersection and collided with the Hyundai. Both drivers and two passengers were transported to Madison County Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver of the Kia was determined to be at fault for failure to stop for a traffic device (red light).
The MPD was assisted at the scene by Madison County Fire Rescue.
