The Florida chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) has always been valuable to Madison County High School (MCHS). FFA members are prepared for careers in agriculture or success in another chosen field. Regardless of future occupation, FFA members become informed and supportive consumers, leaders in building their communities and help strengthen agriculture.
The FFA Advisor at MCHS is Kailee Jenkins, who can be reached at (850) 601-0782. The high school's FFA currently has 17 members raising livestock projects for the North Florida Livestock Show and Sale. Scheduled from Monday, Feb.15 to Thursday, Feb.18, FFA members will play a central role in the show.
The MCHS chapter is preparing several contest teams to compete in livestock judging. In addition to livestock shows, this FFA chapter is participating in forestry, horse evaluation, tractor driving and public speaking. "The FFA has been very busy this year," said Jenkins. "Besides hosting the recent corn hole tournament, the chapter is preparing several teams for various competitions. The chapter has also been able to provide jackets to several students, thanks to generous community supporters."
FFA relies on contributions to support their activities. The school does its part; however, the list of activities is long. "We are hosting a community drive-in movie on Dec. 6 and selling raffle tickets for a gun safe," Jenkins added. "We are trying to partner to do a toy drive again this year. In class, these students have been learning about raising livestock and many other topics."
