Former Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboy defensive back Mikhal “Korn Dawg” Kornegay has joined the coaching staff at Robert F. Munroe High School, in Quincy, Fla. A 2002 graduate of MCHS, the Greenville native began his college career at Tennessee Tech before transferring to Florida State University (FSU) in 2003. While at FSU, Kornegay earned a reputation as one of the hardest workers on the team. This work ethic helped earn him a role as special teams captain during his junior year in 2006. He was also voted the Seminoles' “Special Teams Most Valuable Player” for the 2006 season.
After finishing his playing career at FSU, he returned to Madison to help coach the Cowboys to a state title in 2007. In 2008, Kornegay returned to his college Alma Mater to work for the Seminoles, from 2008 to 2012, as a graduate assistant and quality control coach. Kornegay later went to Tennessee State University to coach cornerbacks. Kornegay also started his own training business (DB Doctor Training, LLC), where he has worked with athletes (primarily defensive backs) of all levels, from prep players to NFL draft picks and players.
“I coached with [Kornegay] on [the] 07 state title team,” said MCHS Head Football Coach Mike Coe. “[He is] highly driven, highly motivated, very knowledgeable and an extremely hard worker. [He is] a great alumni.”
In addition to playing football for the Cowboys, Kornegay also participated in weightlifting and ran track for MCHS.
