To say the world has been in a tough spot over the past couple of weeks would be the “Mother of all Understatements.” To see and hear some of the horror stories coming out of the Middle East is enough to make anyone shudder. On top of that, to see the number of people (some of them even elected officials in our own government) praising the terrorists who killed and slaughtered old women and little children for no other reason than the fact they existed should turn the stomach of any decency-loving person. In my never-to-be-so-humble opinion, no attempted justification could ever excuse such atrocities. It’s enough to make even an optimistic person such as myself shudder.
Aside from the events on the other side of the world, there are those in our own neighborhoods who are still emerging from the storm. There is little doubt that our emergence will be successful and will result in an even stronger community.
We also heard devastating news that a major employer in my nearby home town has decided to close up shop. Aside from the 500 or so people who will, or have, lost their livelihoods, the ripple effect will be felt throughout our area and not just in one community.
Into the midst of all that, in the early morning hours of Monday, Oct. 23, came a welcome beam of beauty in the form of a little baby girl named Haven Gabriella Holbrook. We all knew Haven’s entrance was imminent. Many of us were in eager anticipation. When I first saw the photos of this little miracle, I was reminded that, with all the troubles this world is facing, there is reason for hope and optimism. There’s a line from a song I used to sing back in my more musical days that says, “There’s gonna be another day, and it’s not so far away. There’s gonna be another spring, there’ll always be another song to sing. We’re gonna see, there’s gonna be, another day.”
It is my sincere hope and prayer that we will find a way to make a better world for little Haven, and for all the little Havens still to come.
