This morning, as I was slowly making my way through my early morning routine, a song came across my “Pandora.” The song, titled “A Season in Your Path,” by the contemporary Christian artist Wayne Watson, talks about the fact that people come into our lives at different times in our lives. Sometimes these people are there for a lifetime. Sometimes these people are there for a while, then life moves them on.
I have been very fortunate in my life to have had some incredible friends. I am lucky to have friends all around the world. Some of these are friends with whom I am in pretty constant contact. Some are friends I perhaps have not heard from in years. There are a few I often think of and I have no idea where they are and what is going on in their lives. I admit, that is a tough one. Sometimes I want to say, “I thought of you today, and it was a pleasant thought. I hope you’re doing well.” Sometimes, when I have that thought, I don’t know where to send it in order to get to the desired person. Life is like that. People come and people go. Sometimes we lose track of each other. But even if we lose track, that doesn’t mean that person did not have a lasting impact on one’s life. It simply means the season for that person may have passed.
As bittersweet as all this may sound, this is not meant to be a “sad” column. Even those friends with whom I have lost contact, I cherish the memories I have of them. As the song says, “But all in all, I’m richer for the happy and the sad, and thankful for a season in your path.”
Perhaps one of those “lost” friends may read this one day. If you do, please know that “I thought of you today, and it was a pleasant thought. I hope you’re doing well.” I just don’t know how to send this message, here on the Sunny Side.
