Trust me when I tell you, this was going to be a great column. Earlier today, we were having one of our frequent, thoroughly entertaining conversations. I do remember saying, "this could be the start of a really good column." Problem is, right now, I can't remember what we were talking about. Perhaps I shouldn't feel too bad about that. None of the other conversation participants can remember either, and they have not had as many trips around the sun as I have. I promise you, when I do remember, you will be the first to know, and you will no doubt be thoroughly entertained.
This probably should be a good lesson for me. Whenever I have a good idea, I should write it down immediately before it dies of loneliness. That is what I have started doing. We had another discussion about the difference between supper and dinner. That subject has some good potential, so I wrote myself a note to that effect. You can expect a column on that subject in the not too distant future.
I have known a few very talented song-writers during my life. This is one of the tools they employ, often with great success. Whenever they have an idea for a line in a song or a melody snippet pops into their mind, they make a note of it in their notebook. That is what I will start doing with my story ideas. I can already envision the increased creativity. I've also heard that a person's level of creativity is at its highest right after a nap or while one is asleep and dreaming. Perhaps that's what I need to start doing. I don't know how well it would go over to take a nap here at the newspaper right before I begin work on my column. I doubt the old adage about it being easier to get forgiveness than to get permission would work in that particular situation. I enjoy our weekly visits far too much to take such a chance as that.
We just had another short conversation about various breakfast cereals and the perfect balance between crunchy and soggy. That gives me another great story idea. Now, if I can only remember where I put that blasted notebook! While I'm looking, be sure to have wonderful day here on the "sunny side."
