During the hot days of this past summer I often told people to remember that “October’s coming.” This was my way of assuring folks who may have been uncomfortable with the heat that cooler days are ahead. The last few days, especially this morning, let me know that October is finally here. In fact, this morning, the thermometer in my car told me it was 46 degrees. That actually made me consider putting on a jacket.
I do enjoy the fall months. One reason is because it means that we are that much closer to the Christmas season, which is absolutely my favorite time of the year. I love Christmas music and those goofy, corny Christmas movies that come on every year. Another thing I like about October is the fact that Canadian Thanksgiving comes in October. This year, Canadian Thanksgiving was on Monday, Oct. 9. I know, it does sound strange having a Thanksgiving on a Monday. I wonder if the stores in Canada have big sales for the rest of the week, like “Black Tuesday through Friday.” Regardless of what our friends to the north do, I have had people tell me that it is against some rule to play Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. According to my logic, since Monday, Oct. 9 was technically Canadian Thanksgiving, I should be allowed to play Christmas music now, just as long as it is performed by Canadian artists, right, or should I say, “eh” since we’re talking about Canadians?
As a side note, many of those Christmas movies are actually filmed in Canada, so that means I should be able to watch those movies now, eh? Regardless of whether you are ready for Christmas now, or just want to survive long enough to get through Halloween, I hope it’s a great day for you, with cooler temps here on the Sunny Side.
