It almost seems difficult to believe. As of just a few days from now, I will reach my seven-year anniversary of working here at Greene Publishing, Inc. I do admit, some days have been much easier than others, but that is true in any worthwhile endeavor. I have had people angry at me for telling the truth and I have had others who have thanked me for telling that same truth. To be honest, neither of those viewpoints are my primary motivation. My motivation has always been to tell the truth; others can decide how they choose to react to it. I do find it interesting the number of people who seem rather uncomfortable with the truth.
I have had a blast covering local sports, even when our local teams may not be having the success we would like to see. I have been blessed to see young people learn and grow through those activities, even with the ups and downs. For the most part, I cover things like governmental issues with an even hand, putting my own bias to the side (or rather, that’s always the goal). However, when the Cowboys and Cowgirls are involved, I do not pretend to have any illusion of being unbiased. I am pulling for the Cowboys and Cowgirls.
I think the thing I have enjoyed the most has been our weekly visits. There have been times I have struggled to find something clever to say; perhaps sometimes it may not seem that clever at all. It does fill me with a bit of pride when people tell me they enjoyed reading something I have said during one of our little visits. I have always had the philosophy that if I can somehow make someone laugh or chuckle, or maybe even smile a bit, every day, then I will have lived a very productive life. It is my wish and desire, and I reckon even my prayer, that our weekly visits have accomplished that on occasion.
So, the first seven years have been good. Here’s to another seven, and even more years, right here on the sunny side.
