I’m sure there are many people who need to hear my weather prognostications that it has been hot outside. Actually, a simple glance at the calendar and the knowledge that we have found ourselves, either by design or circumstance, in the “Sunshine State” should be clue enough that the temperatures are sure to be on the warmer end of the scale.
I have a friend (well, he used to be a friend) who was convinced that the world was going to come to an end 10 years ago because of “climate change,” of course brought about by my car with air conditioning. I attempted to explain to him all he needed to know about “climate change.” It gets hot in the summertime and cool in the wintertime. That’s the way it was long before any of us were born and I’m pretty sure will continue until all of us are long since passed.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t think we human types should harm the environment by making the air hard to breathe or make our surroundings ugly by littering. But the notion that people actually have the power and ability to significantly change the weather is the height of arrogance, in my never-to-be so humble opinion. The only thing we people can do about the weather is prepare for it before it gets here and enjoy it when it does.
So, be thankful for the summertime, hot weather and all. Look after those who might be in danger of being harmed by the hot weather. Enjoy cooling off with that Moose Tracks ice cream cone and keep in mind that October’s coming, here on the Sunny Side.
