On Thursday, April 6, First United Methodist Church of Madison will hold a covered dish supper in the fellowship hall of the church. The meal will be served at 6 p.m.
Following the meal, those in attendance will move to the sanctuary for the “Christ in the Passover Seder Meal Presentation” by Karol Joseph of Jews for Jesus.
Jews for Jesus is an agency that proclaims that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world.
Jesus’ first disciples were Jewish, and there have been some Jewish people who have believed in Him since then. According to Jews for Jesus, believing in Jesus makes sense in light of the Jewish Bible and in light of their experiences as believers.
There is no admission charge for this presentation, but a free-will offering will be taken for the ongoing work of the Jews for Jesus ministry.
Holy week will begin with the presentation of the chancel choir cantata, “Forsaken,” by Mark Hayes on Sunday, April 9 during a special combined service at 10 a.m.
This cantata offers one of the most powerful contemporary statements about Christ’s passion and suffering. The music is both dramatic and sensitive; the songs bring the story to life for the audience and the performers.
From the sweetness of Mary Magdalene’s washing of Jesus’ feet to the violence of torches and swords raised to arrest Him, the cantata exemplifies Christ’s love for us.
Accompanied by an instrumental ensemble, the choir will present this powerful story.
Barbara McCauley and Mike Norfleet are the vocal soloists. The narrators are Julie Cherry and Pastor Lamar Albritton. Lynn Corbin, the music director, will lead the program.
A covered dish lunch will be shared after the service.
On Thursday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m., the church will have a Maundy Thursday service. Then on Good Friday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m., there will be a “Seventh Word” presentation. This service will be centered around the final statement made by Jesus before his death.
The community is cordially invited to join the congregation for these special services. First United Methodist Church of Madison is located at 345 SW Rutledge St.
