On the night of Friday, May 1, Bradley Collins was involved in a serious car accident that left him with several broken bones, two collapsed lungs and severe head trauma with brain swelling. Doctors were not optimistic about the chances of recovery. A week passed and Collins still remained unresponsive and in a coma. Collins' mother, Denise Miley struggled and fought with an attorney for the chance to see her injured son. Finally, she was able to see Collins. A prayers chain was soon started, with links stretching from Macedonia Baptist Church, in Lee, to other churches around the area. Soon after, a miracle slowly began to take place. He began a slow recovery, beginning with waking up to squeezing his mom's hand, then speaking and eating on his own. Before long, he was walking and talking and was ready to be transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Jacksonville, Fla., to begin receiving therapy. "This truly is a miracle," said Rev. Trent Abbott, of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Collins has now returned home, but will continue to need therapy for several more weeks. Throughout the entire ordeal, Collins' mom has been by his side. Needless to say, hospital and travel expenses have put a heavy burden on the family. In order to help with some of these expenses, Macedonia Baptist Church, in Madison, will be hosting a chicken dinner on Friday, June 12, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The cost is $8 per plate and each plate consists of a smoked leg quarter, green beans, mashed potatoes, a roll and dessert. Delivery to downtown businesses will be available by calling ahead at (850) 519-8259. Macedonia Baptist Church is located at 5539 E. US Hwy. 90, between Madison and Lee.
