Geneva Massey, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 in Live Oak, Fl. Geneva was born on April 20, 1920 in McDavid, Escambia County Fl., to her late parents, Johnny Rufus Eddins and Mattie Stacey Eddins.
Geneva was a member of the Madison First Baptist Church. Most of her life was spent in Madison County where she enjoyed working with ceramics, working in her yard, gardening, fishing, and was the owner/operator of Massey's grocery and part owner of Massey's Bar-B-Q.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Rufus Eddins and Mattie Stacey Eddins; her husband, Tye Massey; one daughter, Jean Brooks; her twin brothers, Alvin and Calvin Eddins; four sisters: Annie Bell Shackleford, Inez Hall, Elizabeth Eddins, and Iva Lee Davis; and a son-in-law, Wallace Pickles.
Geneva Massey is survived by three daughters: Wynema Pickles, Ann (Freddie) Hicks, and Faye (Bob) Sheffield; three sisters: Evelyn Cribbs, Johnnie Kinard, and Dorothy Hubble; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Jan. 13 at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville at 11 a.m. The service was officiated by Reverend Lester Curry. The family received friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Burns Chapel in Madison, Fl. All arrangements were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
