Mr. George Tom Pinesett, a World War II Veteran, born and raised in Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021. Mr. George was one of the first African American Seamen in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Naval Seabees Construction Battalion.
Mr. George was an avid hunter and fishing was his favorite pastime activity. He worked at Pilgrim’s Pride (formerly known as Gold Kist) for more than two decades before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; and four off spring: Cordell, De’Armestar, Rebecca and Sondra. He survived by one daughter, Mattie Moore Williams (Michael), of West Palm Beach, Fla; one son, Burton Moore, of New Orleans, La.; one step-daughter, Nadean Lee, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one step-son, Joe Willie Thomas, of Madison; nine grandchildren: Tangela Williams Houston (Talmadge), Curtis Williams (Denise) and Eric Williams (Shakeriane), all of Bradenton, Fla.; April Pinesett, of Madison; Miesha Williams, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; Deonjala Williams (Joshua), of Lake Worth, Fla.; Reneisha Hickman, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Jabarren Moore, of Orlando, Fla.; and Caleesha Moore, of Macon, Ga.; 18 great-grands, one great-great grand; two special relatives, Beverly Moore and Lisa Golden, of Madison; special friend, Lucille Day, of Greenville, Fla.; and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A public viewing was held on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooks and Cooper Funeral Home. A graveside burial service was held Friday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway, in Tallahassee, Fla. 32311
