George “Bill” W. Shea, age 89, of Greenville, died on Thursday, June 9, in Madison.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 13, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
The family received friends on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison.
Mr. Shea was born and raised in Greenville and was the son of Lester and Nettie Brannen Shea.
During World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy and reenlisted and served during the Korean Conflict. In 1953, Shea moved to Perry, where he worked for Buckeye Cellulose Co., until he retired in 1973. He came back to Greenville in 1974. He was past commander of Colin P. Kelly American Legion Post # 107 in Greenville, was a member of Perry Church of Christ.
Shea is survived by his children, Lex Shea (Eileen), of Tallahassee and Sharon Boothe (Ray), of Greenville; brother, Tom Shea (Martha), of Valdosta; three sisters: Jimmie Roberts, of Cherry Lake, Inez Pridgeon, of Lake Park, Ga. and Mary Lou White of Jacksonville, Al.; three grandchildren: Michelle Wetherington (Sam), of Madison, Rebecca Lynn McCly (Jason), of Tallahassee and Garrett Shea, of Newport News, Va. as well as six great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Shea of Nankin, Ga.
All arrangements were under the direction of T. J. Beggs, Jr. & Sons, in Madison.
