Greenville Elementary School (GES) fourth and fifth graders celebrated Veterans with patriotic songs and spoken words. The event was a kick off for a week of activities to show support for veterans. The Monticello VFW Post 251 along with Ladies Auxiliary collaborated the program with GES.
The children began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by students singing the National Anthem along with the audience. Parents, relatives, veterans as well as members from the Madison County School Board were singing along in the stands.
Superintendent of Schools Doug Brown, provided a welcome that began the program. Brown along with John Nelson, Sr., the master of ceremonies, presented essay winners with awards for writing words about Veterans Day. Fourth grader Hafitha Ayyad and fifth grader, Jaden Peacock, both received trophies and certificates for their hard work writing veteran themed essays.
Students from Joann Bridges Academy diligently assisted GES with decorations, set-up and clean up.
