On Tuesday, March 28, Greenville Elementary School held their second Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) meeting. Through APTT, the staff and faculty of GES have made it their goal to ensure 100 percent parent involvement in the academics of their children.
According to a study administered by WestEd, the company which created the APTT program, students spend 33 percent of their time asleep, 55 percent of their time away from school, and a meager 12 percent of their time at school. Due to these statistics, the APTT program strives to guarantee students are receiving academic support at home, as well as at school.
During the APTT meeting, GES instructional staff met with parents, facilitated ice-breaker activities, shared student progress data, and explained how to better assist their children. Parents were equipped with lessons and activities to continue academic growth in the home.
Overall, the night was a success, and Greenville Elementary School saw an increase in parent attendance since the last APTT meeting on Dec. 6. “I am excited with the increase in parent participation,” said Geraldine Wildgoose, GES principal. “Our numbers doubled this time; our team looks forward to continued growth and involvement with parents supporting their children.”
After the program, parents and students enjoyed pizza and refreshments in the cafeteria.
