Gordon Wilson Selman Sr., 96, went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with his wife of 72 years, on Saturday, April 11 in Tallahassee, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 18, 1919 in Armuchee, Ga., in Floyd County, to Jonah David Selman and Lottie Lee Scoggins, who both preceded him in death. Gordon put God first always and his faith shined upon everyone in his life. His loves were gardening, fishing, hunting, and family. He was a wonderful, loving man who showed respect to everyone he met. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Madison. He worked with the Van H. Priest Company, owned Selman’s Sundries Drugstore, and was a security guard at the Winn-Dixie/Dixie Packers meat packaging plant. He worked until age 85 with the Senior Citizen Center, in Madison. Gordon is survived by his son, Gordon “Don” W. Selman Jr. (Madison,); his daughter, Martha S. Roberts (Tallahassee,) ; two grandsons: James “Trey” Roberts, III (Jennifer) and Deric Roberts (Tallahassee); three great-grandchildren: Arthur, Henry and Lacey Roberts (Tallahassee); and many devoted nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hettie Louise Selman; son-in-law, James Roberts Jr; four brothers: Buford Selman, Roy Selman, Clyde Selman, James Selman; and sister, Jessie Lynch. His viewing will be Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison, followed by a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. The funeral will be officiated by Pastors Tom Ray Kelley and Gabe Krell. Graveside service will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.
