The annual Greenville Country Christmas bake-off was held on Friday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. at the Greenville/Madison Multipurpose Center. Baked goods were required to be dropped off at 4 p.m. that day.
The bake-off offered many divisions for individuals to enter. For the adult division, individuals could enter the cakes, pies or breads division. Prizes consisted of $50 for first place, $20 for second place and $10 for third place in the adult division.
Youth (ages 12-17) also had the opportunity to participate in the bake-off. Divisions for the youth included candies and cookies. Twenty dollars was awarded to the first place winner, $10 to the second place winner and $5 to the third place winner.
The bake-off judges had to make some tough decisions as so many delicious baked goods were entered. But, after much deliberation, decisions were made. Winners in the breads division consisted of: Holly Herndon, first place; Chiquita Kornegay, second place; and Kerry Cohen, third place. Winners in the cakes division were: Juanita Cason, first place; Regina Vaffall, second place; and Jessica Higginbotham, third place. Winners in the pies division were: Rose Thigpen, first place; Kerry Cohen, second place; and Holly Herndon, third place.
First, second and third place winners were also named in the youth division for the candies and cookies divisions. Winners in the candies division consisted of: Jake Myers, first place; Ethan Myers, second place; and Isabello Herndon, third place. In the cookies division: Isabello Herndon walked away with first place, Ethan Myers with second place and Jake Myers with third place.
