A Greenville man recently arrested, in Monticello, for sexual abuse of a minor is facing a $100,000 bond.
Authorities arrested 43-year-old Samuel Gonzales, of Greenville, on Saturday, Nov. 19, and charged him with lewd and lascivious battery.
According to the arrest report, deputy Kevin Sears, with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), responded to a complaint of child abuse and spoke with the mother of the victim.
The mother barely spoke English but was able to relate to Sears that her husband had sex with her 12-year-old daughter.
Via “Language Link,” a translating agency used by the Florida Highway Patrol, Sears was able to get more details about the incident.
According to the report, the mother stated that sometime between 10 and 10:30 p.m., she had walked in on Gonzales and her daughter “hugging and kissing.”
The mother stated that when she questioned the two about the situation, Gonzales informed her that he and the girl had sex previously and were in a relationship. Questioned by Sears, the girl confirmed an instance of sex two weeks earlier, according to the report.
Gonzales, when Sergeant Logan Wilcox interviewed him subsequently with assistance from Language Link, admitted to the allegations, according to the report.
“At this time, Sgt. Wilcox stopped Samuel and read him his Miranda warning,” the report states. “Samuel stated he wished to speak to a lawyer due to the fact he did not understand the legality of what was going on.”
At which point Gonzales was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail and the bond was set at $100,000.
