On Friday, July 14, city officials and various North Florida Medical staff gathered at 469 W. Base St., in Madison, to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the new clinic, which will be coming in the next several months. Despite the rain attempting to postpone the event, North Florida Medical CEO Lane Lunn stated that the ceremony will continue on, as Florida weather cannot be predicted on any occasion.
The ceremony continued as scheduled, with several officials and members of the community participating in the celebration. Both the City Manager, Jerome Wyche, and Lunn expressed their excitement for the upgraded building coming to the community. Lunn has also stressed the importance of accessible, affordable healthcare to rural communities.
“We work endlessly to increase awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyles, preventive practices and to improve the health of our communities,” she stated.
Officials and staff gathered around a large pile of dirt with ceremonial shovels to commemorate the moment. The clinic is estimated to be finished in between 12 and 14 months, as it will be a large building covering 11,400 square feet.
